Terpenes are the natural oils found in all plants and herbs. These oils are what give plants their aromas and flavors. Some examples of plants that have distinct terpene profiles include lemons, pine trees, mangos and eucalyptus plants. There are over 100 identifiable terpenes found in cannabis, and every strain has a different terpene composition.
The five main terpenes found in cannabis are Pinene, Myrcene, Limonene, Caryophyllene and Linalool.

Myrcene – Earthy and herbal aroma with notes of fruit, most commonly found in mangos, lemongrass and thyme. Used for a sedating effect and as an anti-inflammatory. Strains high in Myrcene include Pure Kush, White Widow, Skunk #1 and Himalayan Gold.
Limonene - Citrus aroma most commonly found in fruit rinds, juniper and spearmint. Used for elevated mood and stress relief. Some strains with high traces of Limonene include OG Kush, Super Lemon Haze, Jack the Ripper and Lemon Skunk.
Caryophyllene - Peppery, spicy, woody aroma most commonly found in black pepper, cloves and cotton. Used as a gastro-protective and anti-inflammatory, also used arthritis, ulcers and auto-immune disorders. The strains “Hash Plant” is extremely high in Caryophyllene.
Linalool – Floral, citrus, candy-like aroma most commonly found in lavender. Used for reducing anxiety, depression and acne. Some strains with high levels of Linalool include G-13, Amnesia Haze and LA Confidential.
